By: Jason Morris
May 20, 2012

San Salvador, El Salvador - Winning breads winning. One week after Jason Morris Judo Center (Glenville, NY) athletes won two USA world cup bronze medals, seven US Open medals (1 gold, 6 bronze) and placed two athletes on the 2012 Olympic team in Miami, Burnt Hills High school graduate, Hannah Martin (23) captured her first 63kg world cup gold medal in El Salvador over the weekend. Martin dominated Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT), Catherine Pinard (CAN) in her first two bouts before slamming long time North American rival Stephanie Tremblay (CAN) with harai for ippon (full point) in the final improving her record against Tremblay to 8-4. This result catapults Martin to a career high #1 ranking in the US after being in this weight class for only one year now. Martin was ranked #1 briefly at 57kg before having to move up to 63kg. Tony Sangimino (21) posted a 3-1 record to earn a silver medal beating Manny Galvez (ESA), Reginald De Windt (AHO) and Scott McCrandle (CAN) before falling in the final to Max Buga from Russia. Sangimino jumps from #5 all the way to #2 on the US ranking roster right behind former JMJC teammate and 2012 Olympian, Travis Stevens. Brad Bolen (23) stretched his medal streak to five events as he picked up a bronze in 66kg posting a 3-1 record including a big win over Francinildo Bernardes (BRA) in the bronze medal match. Bolen won the US Nationals in Dallas, took a bronze at the Pan Ams in Montreal, USA World Cup and the US Open in Miami previously. Nick Kossor went 2-2 to place 5th at 60lg to close out the JMJC's participation in El Salvador. While his JMJC teammates were competing at the World Cup, Burnt Hills High Junior, Jack Hatton (73kg) won a bronze medal at the Ontario Open in Toronto in the 17-19yrs. 73kg division.
